A 14-year-old boy has died after an “isolated incident” at a school in West Lothian.

It happened at St Kentigern’s Academy in Blackburn on Tuesday afternoon.

Police were called at around 1.20pm and the boy was taken to hospital but later died.

Inquiries into the full circumstances of his death are ongoing, said Police Scotland.

The school confirmed emergency services had been called after an “isolated incident within the school grounds”.

“All parents of pupils directly affected have been contacted and we are assisting the relevant authorities with their ongoing inquiries,” said a statement on its website.

The school said it could not currently give more detail due to the police investigation.

“We have set up ongoing emotional support and signposting for students and staff affected by this tragic news,” said headteacher Andrew Sharkey.

“We would like to respect the family’s privacy at this incredibly painful time.”
