Hollywood stars Bruce Willis and Demi Moore have become grandparents.

The former couple’s eldest daughter, Rumer Willis, announced the birth of her first child on Tuesday.

It comes two months after the announcement of her father’s dementia diagnosis.

The 34-year-old actress introduced Louetta Isley Thomas Willis in a post on Instagram, describing her daughter – who she shares with partner Derek Richard Thomas – as “pure magic”.

“Louetta Isley Thomas Willis. You are pure magic. Born at home on Tuesday, 18 April. You are more than we ever dreamed of,” she wrote.

Family release unseen footage of Bruce Willis

In March 2022, relatives said Bruce Willis would be “stepping away” from acting following a diagnosis of aphasia, a condition affecting the brain which causes difficulty with language and speech.

In an update in February his family said the condition had progressed and he had been given a more specific diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia (FTD).

“As Bruce’s condition advances, we hope that any media attention can be focused on shining a light on this disease that needs far more awareness and research,” his family said.

The statement was signed by his wife Emma Heming Willis, Moore, as well as his children Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel, and Evelyn.

According to the NHS, FTD causes changes to personality, behaviour, language and movement, due to the areas of the brain that it affects.

As with other forms of dementia, the onset of the disease is slow to begin with but gradually gets worse.
