Sam Smith has cancelled part of their tour one day before a gig was due to start because of illness.

The award-winning artist was due to perform at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on Saturday evening but was forced to postpone the show after being “hit by a virus”.

The Scottish leg of their Gloria tour will instead take place next month.

The 30-year-old announced the unexpected news on Instagram on Friday.

They said: “Sailors… I’m so sorry to say but we have to reschedule the Glasgow show to 25th May 2023.

“Myself and a lot of my team have been hit with a virus, that’s made us really unwell.

“I want to give you the best version of Gloria the Tour and at the moment that’s not possible. It was also really important to me that we had another date to move this to straight away.

Smith kicked off their UK and Europe tour with performances in Sheffield, Dublin and London.

The singer has received mixed reactions to their costumes and actions on stage, with some fans deeming the performances “inappropriate” for younger people.

Meanwhile others were full of praise for the show.

During the Brit Awards, Smith’s inflatable latex suit was one of the most talked about items on social media, as was their performance of the hit song Unholy with Kim Petras.
