Man who leapt over court bench to attack judge given prison sentence by same judge

US

A man who was caught on camera launching a shocking attack on a judge has been sentenced by the same judge to between 19 and 48 months in prison.

Deobra Delone Redden, 30, launched himself over a court bench and landed on top the judge before engaging in a brawl with court officials at Clark County District Court on 3 January.

After leaping over the bench he grabbed Judge Mary Kay Holthus by the hair before a courtroom clerk and marshall pulled him off her.

The judge suffered some injuries in the attack but returned to work the next day.

He had attempted to convince Judge Holthus he was turning around his violent past and had asked for leniency while describing himself as “a person who never stops trying to do the right thing no matter how hard it is”.

But as it became clear Judge Holthus was going to sentence him to prison, and as the court marshall moved to handcuff him and take him into custody, Redden swore and charged forward.

The sentence was in connection with a baseball bat attack last year.
