A soldier has died during a military training exercise in Wiltshire, the army has said.

The soldier died on the Salisbury Plain Training Area, with local news website Wiltshire Today reporting that a tank had rolled over in the incident.

An army spokesperson said: “It is with sadness that we can confirm the death of a soldier on Salisbury Plain Training Area.

“Wiltshire Police are investigating and therefore it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

Local media reported that emergency services were called to a public byway in Enford, about 10 miles south of Devizes, just before midday on Friday.
